dotCHAT is Byng's regular insight-led breakfast event programme, at which we share our technical expertise and domain knowledge with attendees from various sectors. It's an opportunity to learn and share with like minded people, in an open room format. The events include guest speakers, who share their experiences of digital & mobile products and services.


At this session we'll be discussing how Asset/Investment/Wealth Management businesses can create sophisticated mobile applications on a lean budget, giving them a competitive edge, by using strategy, the latest in hybrid mobile technology and agile delivery methodologies.

Joining us for the morning from Oakam will be both Tom Allder, Chief Marketing Officer and Julie Haugen, Director of Digital Strategy and Customer Experience. Also speaking will be Max Lynch, Chief Executive Officer at Ionic. From Byng, Ollie Maitland our Managing Director will share interesting and useful insights around hybrid technology and Katie Buffalo will be running a workshop in which she'll demonstrate how a market beating programme of work is pulled together and managed.

Who is the event aimed at?

Morgan Stanley and TD Direct Investing have both recently released mobile apps, using a hybrid approach and delivered using agile methodologies - giving them a competitive advantage. There is a great opportunity for like minded asset management businesses to follow suit.

You'll be in great company, the morning is aimed at attendees from Asset, Investment and Wealth Management businesses. Expect a wide mix of roles in attendance including senior people from customer experience, marketing, operations, technology, digital and mobile. It’s an opportunity to learn about hyper relevant, real-world advancements in mobile technology relevant to your sector, with live demonstrations.

Tom Allder - Chief Marketing Officer

Tom is overseeing the digital expansion of Oakam, a major high street lender. Mobile is a cornerstone of their growth strategy. Tom will be speaking about the strategy that drives a successful app, drawing from his experiences at Oakam and before. He'll be supported by Julie Haugen. Between them they bring a huge pool of experience, with Julie having headed up mobile strategy at Wonga and Tom having spent 10 years at American Express as Vice President, Head of International Insurance for Europe.

Ollie Maitland - MD & Technical Director – Byng

Ollie is our Managing Director, he's passionate about apps and was instrumental in the construction of the TD Direct Investing mobile platform. When not managing multiple projects, consulting or keyboard-shortcutting to beat the band, he can be found at Burning Man, most likely still attached to his laptop.

Max Lynch - CEO – Ionic

Max is Chief Executive at Ionic Framework, a technology that is fast becoming the standard for creating hybrid mobile applcations with a native look and feel. Ionic is trusted by businesses as varied as Camelot Group, Morgan Stanley, Nationwide Bank and Accenture. Its a firm favourite at Byng and a key element of our mobile development stack. Max will be discussing the latest developments in Ionic and demonstrating how it is a cost effective and powerful solution for delivering sophisticated mobile apps.

Katie Buffalo – Senior Project Manager - Byng

Katie is one of our senior project managers at Byng and an expert in Agile delivery. She has project managed dozens of digital tranformation programmes and will be be breaking down how to turn great ideas into a solid programme of work.
